Simplicity is Key.
Posted: February 1, 2012 In: Ideas and Innovation
Simplicity is key. Keep it simple, and just create. In our AZDS mindset the most important part after creation is to track it. In most online campaigns, we are past where simple awareness is enough. It is crucial to show exact ROI and ROAS. AZDS specializes in creating interactive solutions, and then continuing to track and monitor their success.
We have solutions that allow us to build multi-channel funnels that truly work and show percentages of a particular conversion, and how it occurred. It is always wonderful when we can show accurate breakdowns on return for online media spend.
Let AZDS create masterful online campaigns, interactive websites, custom e-mail marketing, and then put the pieces together, so we can track success and spur growth.
New, New, and New.
Posted: January 2, 2012 In: Ideas and Innovation
The New Year is among us. It brings great excitement and opportunity. At AZDS we set internal goals to create success for our clients. Whether it is increasing the reservation conversion rates for luxury hotels, or creating newfound brand awareness for an opening, we create measureable success. Our goals are relayed to our clients, so we have a benchmark to hit. We don’t simply aim to meet the benchmark, but far exceed it.
Because we work in interactive media, we have tools that allow us to directly measure our agency effectiveness. What is the ROI for a particular campaign, what was the ROAS? These are things are more difficult to quantify using traditional media, but with our interactive expertise - we can. We are also using some new and exciting analytic tools that give us an incredibly detailed picture of what exactly is happening.
We are hitting the ground running, with exciting new work ahead. And, we already doubled the reservation conversion rate for one of our clients from November to December.
End of Year Wrap Up
Posted: December 1, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
It’s about that time of year where we reflect on this past year’s happenings and successes. It’s really unbelievable how quickly time goes by, and how we are a mere 30 days or so from 2012. There really isn’t enough time in the year – at least that’s how I see it. The end of a year is an opportunity to keep things moving, and generate new growth potential for another great year.
Over 2011 we have had the opportunity to work with a number of wonderful clients enhancing their interactive solutions through creative web development, analytics, search engine optimization, and creative interactive advertising campaigns to spur growth. We have done this, and succeeded. We have seen everything from pure revenue growth and increased bookings (luxury hospitality), to further online awareness and new potential markets for expansion. It is just a starting point as every New Year our task is taller, and the bar is set higher.
Simply put, 2011 has been about helping our clients stand out from the rest of the competition – leaving the other players miles behind. Whether this was through search, social, or something entirely unique, AZDS makes it happen. It isn’t easy, and our team is the best in the business.
If you are a luxury brand, re-evaluate where you stand for 2012, and let AZDS help you distance yourself even further from the competition.
Best wishes for the holiday season, and for a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2012-

Not just interactive experiences, but elegant ones.
Posted: November 1, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
Interactive experiences are a dime a dozen. Every place you look, whether online, mobile, or elsewhere we are exposed to interactive advertisements that are out to grab our attention. This must be done in a half of a second, or even less for some of us. Because of this, the ads must be created with much care, truly mimicking an experience or an idea of the brand. You may ask, how can we grab someone’s attention so quickly, yet still communicate this idea of elegance. This isn’t an easy task, yet at AZDS it is our specialty – our bread and butter.
We create digital experiences (web, ads, mobile) for luxury brands. We communicate the same level of sophistication and elegance, as the brand we are working on. Brands are art forms, and our expertise is working with Picasso, Van Gogh, and Michelangelo. Let us paint you the Sistine Chapel, interactively of course.
Grow Revenue through Analytics & Light the Night Walk.
Posted: October 1, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
This blog post isn’t as much fun as last months where we discussed salt and pepper. No cooking in this post, however we are sharing more about one of our most important services which leads to noticeable revenue growth for our clients.
We mix heat maps, variable revenue tracking, call tracking and recording, and URL parameters. We then analyze this data, and create opportunities for new revenue. We suppose that is simpler said then done, but we can’t give away our trade secrets. Check out our case studies for Sotheby’s, ETC Hotels, and Westin Hotels and Resorts.
On another unrelated note, the AZDS team participated in September’s Washington Park Light the Night Walk to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma societies. In all the event raised over $50,000 for Leukemia and Lymphoma research.
How can you be the pepper?
Posted: September 1, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
Salt and pepper gives food a little kick. It doesn’t make or break the dish, but it does give it a little step-up to make your taste buds salivate. You may wonder why we are talking about food and taste buds salivating (as we aren’t chefs like Thomas Keller), but what we do as a boutique interactive agency is very similar to that of salt and pepper. We are that extra kick, or the step stool, that allows our clients to push through to the next level.
Through interactive solutions including social, search, and information architecture, we are capable of providing the same kick as fresh ground pepper (sometimes even a Jalapeño).
Shine through the funnel.
Posted: August 1, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
This blog article is about funnels. I am not discussing physical funnels, yet I am discussing how funnel analysis through site analytics allows our clients to see what is working, and shine brighter then their competition (in real-time, none the less). Funnels allow for us to visualize where your particular website traffic is coming from, and the process in which users interact with your content. This leads to more conversions, which leads to additional revenue. No arguing with that.
Funnels are essentially a visual interpretation of a sequence of events (and a completion of a funnel is a goal). We analyze user paths and discuss with our clients roadmaps that will lead their users to conversions.
Our goal at AZDS is to complete as many of these goals as possible, and to stimulate additional revenue growth. Funnel analytics is part of our search engine optimization services which we provide to a number of clients including Westin and ETC Hotels.

Facebook Studio and the ONE Show
Posted: May 31, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
Creativity has spurts. Creativity is unplanned. And unplanned spurts of creativity lead to ideas worth spreading (thank you TED).
The ONE SHOW Creative Unconference/the Facebook Studio Live in New York City is exactly unplanned creatives in one place pondering and sharing with one another ideas worth spreading. I had the opportunity to attend the event in early May which allowed for me to foster and share some of the projects we are currently working on, while generating solutions and ideas for our clients. Creativity has to be fostered and shared, and cannot be confined or held.
Some of the items worth sharing at the ONE Show included:
-theviralcollection.com
-indiyoung mental models
-average people in a facebook group is eight.
-people can only actually stay in touch with 150 people.
-people who sit next to heavy eaters are more likely to eat more (heavily influenced by those around us).
-awareness, consideration, preference, action, then and only then loyalty.
See photos (I am in a couple of pictures if you spot them): http://on.fb.me/jIP4wt.
Facebook Studio Live also included and introduced “best-practices” for agencies and developers for the Facebook platform. It was an entertaining excuse to get out the office for a few days.

The Creative Unconference
Posted: April 29, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
The ONE Show 2011 Creative Unconference is fast approaching. I will be attending both segments of the conference in New York. The first part focuses on "Real World. Digital World. Social World." The second part of the conference is a Facebook Studio Live event--which is a hands-on experience with access to Facebook experts, tools, and strategies. It is what keeps us agency folk ahead of the curve, and passionate about all of the latest and greatest social tools.
We are students for life, always learning, honing, and strategically adjusting our skill-sets.

The Key to Success
Posted: March 28, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
In a couple of days you will see the April hint go live on the home page of our site. When you see it you will surely notice why we titled March’s blog entry the Keys to Success. It has more to do with April’s hint then today’s blog entry, however there is certainly overlap.
Brands are built and developed through lots of strategy, creativity, and most importantly, a variety of strong ideas that make up that brand. A brand is much more then just a logo and a design, it is an identity. It is the difference between success and failure in the marketplace. At AZDS we don’t necessarily build brands--that is not our expertise, but we certainly do play a critical role in assisting brand consultants to build brands. What you make people feel when they land on a website, a social network page, an interactive contest, a blog, or even a splash page is special. People generally either feel “Oh, wow! This is awesome!” or “Uh, what now?”. Our creations generate the first reaction. BMW puts it very succinctly, "What you make people feel is just as important as what you make."
At AZDS we create digital masterpieces. We help establish brands in our medium of choice (the internet). It is something that we have been doing for the past six years now, and we have learned to be quite good at it. Let AZDS help in your next website redevelopment, online advertising campaign, social media integration, custom social media contest, e-mail marketing, and or any sort of interactive distribution. We work with a number of luxury lifestyle brands among others. Let AZDS create the wow factor for your brand.
How does March sound?

February marked the first OMA Arts Integration Intensive here in Denver. AZDS attended the event in order to get some quality footage for video distribution. The event rocked, and the OMA Arts Integration Specialists did a fantastic job keeping the audience wanting more! We’ll keep you posted on the video footage, so you can see exactly what we are talking about.
Several new projects are underway including a new website and backend database for a purchasing consortium between distributors and Miller/Coors.
We are also working on releasing a new Westin “racetrack” micro-site, and the new meeting planner template should be ready this month.
New Clients and New Opportunities
Posted: January 28, 2011 In: Ideas and Innovation
February is a big month for us here at AZDS. Early February marks the launch of Kelly Birner’s all new Sotheby’s International Realty website and mobile application. The website is “map driven”--and that is about all we can tell you before launch. It is a dream come true for the real estate client that wants a seamless online search for their new home.
Also “cooking” are several new clients a little west of here. Sorry, we can’t be more specific, until we lock everything in place.
The OMA model is launching their first ever “out of Arizona” training in Denver, Colorado, and we developed an interactive registration system that is exceeding their expectations. Now is time for an interactive e-mail campaign that is video driven.
January marked the first month of running new video and social media campaigns for Via Elegante Assisted Living, which saw phenomenal growth in 2010.
Last, but certainly not least, we have a new micro-site in development for Westin, and a new meeting planner guide for the Westin Savannah Harbor.
All is well on the AZDS front, and we appreciate the confidence our clients place in our hands everyday. We will exceed our client’s expectations and we will remain as the industry leader in interactive advertising and interactive website development.

We are honored and thankful to have the continued opportunity to work with industry leading brands such as Westin Hotels and Resorts, Fuller | Sotheby's International Realty, and the University of Denver. It is also an honor to be working with such an amazing educational non-profit, the OMA Foundation, and the number of other boutique speciality firms and shops. Recent Project Rundown:
A few of the major projects that have launched for OMA include the all new video blog, the annual report puzzle, and the interactive OMA Gold School holiday performance calculator. The video blog has been a breakdown of Corbett Elementary School students performing an original play called "A Deceptive Dentist." We encourage you to watch a few clips if you haven’t already! The annual report puzzle is an interactive puzzle that allows you to “put the year’s pieces together.” It went live at the beginning of November and we are very pleased with how it has added a “hint of orange” to a factual annual report. Last, the interactive holiday performance calendar is live at omagold.org, and allows for schools to log-in and post all of their holiday events.
On the Westin front, we are building a new splash page and an interactive advertising package for the Hutchinson Island Racetrack at the Westin Harbor Resort in Savannah, which is nearing completion.
AppTier LLC and reVision, Inc also had site launches here in November. We will continue to work to develop their online images, and tie those to a variety of other needed marketing deliverables.
We want to wish you all the best for Thanksgiving and the holiday season! Take some time to relax and enjoy!

The AZDS team (“AZDS flava” according to our banner) headed out to nearby Wash Park on September 30th, 2010 along with thousands of other supporters to participate in the Light The Night Walk. The 5K walk around the park was sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who deserves an enormous amount of credit for putting together such an outstanding event. The corporate sponsors also deserve a round of applause for contributing to the outstanding cause.
It is safe to say that the night was a blast! We are looking forward to doing it again next year!

Broncos vs. Seahawks - Invesco Field
Posted: September 20, 2010 In: Launch
Yesterday, Adam and I had the privilege of attending the home opener of the Denver Broncos. They were squaring off with my favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks. Adam is a huge fan of the Broncos, so as you can imagine, there was a lot of smack talking and boasting going on before the game had even started. We had a feeling it was going to be heated figuratively, but not literally. The temperature exceeded 91°F and was officially the hottest season home opener in Broncos history.
The beginning of the game went exceptionally well as the Seahawks started off getting to the Broncos 1-yard line, but were plagued to a number of penalties and then an interception which proved to sway the momentum.
Not the great start to the game that I wanted.
Adam, on the other hand, was loving life. The Broncos continue to charge forward and ended up dominating the rest of the game resulting in the final score of 31-14. While it was aggravating sitting in the blazing heat, watching my team lose, and listening to Adam announce that it was “his team” that was once again victorious, there was a silver lining.
The only reason the Broncos won, was due to the fact that they were wearing AZDS orange.
That’s the only explanation I can think of :)

Go OMA!

The long-anticipated OMA Model/Gold/Foundation website is finally live! We would like to thank the entire OMA team for providing us with the feedback that allowed us to construct an interactive website that is both active, eye-catching, and fun to navigate.
Once the first page loads, the first three words that you see in the center of your screen show you what OMA is all about: “OMA builds brains.”
All of the photos of students on the website are taken from OMA schools and the smiles on their faces vividly show what OMA can do for the students. In OMA schools, they aim to make education fun and when building the website, we wanted to give you some insight into just how fun learning is through the OMA model. But enough description, go check it out yourself at www.omamodel.org! Let us know what you think.
Summer the AZDS Way
Posted: July 28, 2010 In: Ideas and Innovation
So far, the summer of 2010 has proved to be one of our busiest summers to date from the steady workload we have had here at AZDS. Fortunately, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Most recently, we have had the chance to initiate the web development process for reVision, Inc. and AppTier. We are privileged to have them on board and look forward to expanding their businesses through our innovative, marketable designs.
Adam has been extraordinarily busy due to his constant traveling. Earlier this month, he headed east to Savannah, Georgia and spent a few days checking up on the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa. While there, he completed a web-based reservation system for the Marina making it that much simpler to access some of the resort’s luxurious amenities. Also completed was a new microsite for the Marina. August promises a new video production for the resort. AZDS has the opportunity to complete video commercials for the hotel’s televisions and lobby screens and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Our work with OMA has been progressing as well. After many hours in the office and on the phone, the new OMA website should be ready by the end of next week! We are excited to go live with it as soon as possible. Our next new task to complete is the unique OMA progress tracker which is currently in development and is scheduled to be put into effect a few weeks into “school quarter one.”
Via Elegante is continuing to have success with their interactive campaigns as they are at full occupancy.
We have also had some fun this summer. Adam went ballistic when the Lakers defended their title and became the NBA champions for the second year in a row. I am under strict orders to write “congrats” to the Lakers, however that isn’t how I individually feel. We will see how they fare next year in a league with a newly-formed superstar-studded team :). Spain also deserves a great deal of credit for winning the World Cup. All of us at AZDS were a little disappointed that the Netherlands lost, not necessarily because we liked the team, but mainly because we liked their uniforms. Can you guess why? Well, they were orange. Enough said.
I am happy to announce that I received a long-anticipated promotion and now hold the title of “Director of Client Strategy and Growth.” It’s about time boss! All jokes aside, I am looking forward to delving further into the mechanics of the business and am determined to prove myself in this new role. On a personal note I also have a new 9 week old English Lab Puppy. Her name is Nala, and she is as cute as can be!
Finally, if anyone has ideas for Quarter 2 charity events, please e-mail us at info@azdsm.net. We are constantly looking for ways to better the community and are willing to put forth the effort necessary to make a difference.

Just an AZDS Update
Posted: June 8, 2010 In: Ideas and Innovation
It is unusual for me to find the time in my schedule to write posts on our AZDS blog these days. This being said, I wanted to write a short new post, to welcome some of our newest clients and to give an update on some of our latest work.
First and foremost, I would like to welcome AppTier, providing solutions for enterprise content management. Additionally, I would like to welcome Yorkshire Equity, LLC, investing in lower middle-market companies in North America where they establish further long-term value creation.
Secondly, listed below are a variety of the projects we have been working on:
- Opening Minds through the Arts website redevelopment, image creation, marketing and advertising for the Arts Integration Academy, OMA Model projects, and the new OMA Progress tracker.
- Via Elegante advertising monthly interactive campaigns.
- Yorkshire Equity e-mail template, Powerpoint design, and Microsite.
- Westin Harbor Resort Savannah Sales and Marketing folder.
- Client Blog and Social Media Development.
I would like to extend a thank you to all of our current clients for their continued support. We are looking forward to continued success with enhancing your online image and outreach.
Also keep an eye out for my article in the Cherry Creek Chronicle regarding interactive website usage and advertising within the plastic surgery industry. It is an interesting quick read!
If we can be of any assistance, please contact us.

TEDxDU
Posted: May 14, 2010 In: Ideas and Innovation
First and foremost, Adam, Makayla, and I would like to issue a huge “thank you” to Scott Gilbert who was able to get us VIP tickets to this thought-provoking and “empowering” event. In addition to assisting us, Scott was an underlying force in scheduling and managing the conference, so he deserves an enormous amount of credit for making it so successful.
Now, on to TED. WOW. Again, WOW. That’s all we could say yesterday.
Makayla and I had never been to a TED event so it completely blew us away. “TED” stands for technology, entertainment, and design; they travel around the world with various guest speakers with the goal of inspiring ideas and innovation. Just like we aim to “empower” our clients, TED aims to “empower” all of their attendees. Maybe that is why we had such an amazing time.
TEDxDU is something that we will remember for the rest of our lives based on the guest speakers that they selected largely due to their diverse professions. Here are some examples of their titles: global futurist; peace “proactivist;” social worker; CEO; legal reformer; musicologist; neurodegeneration scientist; sport desegregationalist.
Between so many intriguing topics, we noted a few of the most important quotes that caught our attention. Neal Foard, the Worldwide Director of Creative Learning for a firm called Saatchi & Saatchi, announced how our culture today values celebrities and athletes too much. So who should we “cheer for?” Engineers, according to Mr. Foard, “When there is an asteroid heading towards Earth, you are gonna be cheering for the people that can do the math.” However, our favorite quote came from William Espey of Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. He used statistics to show the “standard deviation of the creative mind” when he asked, “Where is your asymptote?”
Taking into account our VIP status, we sat front row and were only a few feet away from the passionate presenters. Since we were so close, the cameramen filming the event often captured us in the shot. We must have appeared on the big screen (directly behind the speakers) 5 or 6 times! Makayla was lucky enough to have the camera solely focused on her for about 10 seconds. Adam and I weren’t jealous at all.
Basically, if you hear of a TED or TEDx event happening around you, get a ticket as soon as possible!

AZDS is a believer in giving back to the community that has provided us all with so much. On May 7th, the AZDS team sponsored a spinning class (The Roadless Ride) for Brent’s Place. The Brent Eley Foundation helps those living with cancer by providing housing, programs, and partnerships in our Denver community. A big thank you to the Pura Vida Health Club, who did an amazing job organizing the event. It was a great way for our creative team to get out and enjoy some daytime cycling while simultaneously giving back to the community. There is a saying that reads something along the lines of, “If you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.” We have all heard it growing up. There may be people who wholeheartedly disagree with this phrase, but here at AZDS, it is impossible to not emphatically agree.
We enjoy skiing/snowboarding and checking out the newest and latest technology available on the market. Watching Adam scream at the T.V. when the Lakers lose is also highly inspirational for me personally (if you couldn’t tell Adam and I have a pretty intense rivalry). One of the most popular activities we do when our brains need a rest is head over to the nearby store The North Face (TNF). We all enjoy their apparel, but Adam in particular loves it. He will tell you that his primary reason for endorsing the brand is that in advertising you have to “be your client.” This may be partially true, but to be completely honest, he just loves TNF.
Like we said before, we provide you with creative advertising that provides premium results. If we have to slave in the office for hours in order to fully complete a task, we will do it. We really aim to view the company the way you do in order to do the best job possible. Nonetheless, for us to produce an admirable piece of work, we have to have fun doing it.

Jay-Z Concert
Posted: April 21, 2010 In: Launch
It was March 22nd and Adam, Makayla, and I were extremely excited because we had lower-bowl tickets to go see the Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Concert. Trey Songz and Young Jeezy were scheduled to perform with Jay-Z as well, so we were clearly lucky to get such superb seats.
Unfortunately, Makayla was feeling sick that day and didn’t feel up to going (understandable considering rock concerts can exceed 115 dB; generally doesn’t go well with a headache). Adam and I decided to bring along a few other friends and we headed down to the Pepsi Center at around 7:00 p.m.
When we arrived at 7:30, a band of DJs were on stage playing their set. Although we didn’t exactly enjoy their music, it was unbelievable how strong the bass and speakers were in the arena. You could literally feel your whole body tremble with each “thump.”
We knew it was going to be a night to remember.
Trey Songz was the first to take the stage and he started things off on the right foot. “I Need a Girl” and “Say Aah” were the two songs that really stimulated the rambunctious crowd. Then, there was an intermission and we had to wait for the next performer.
This was possibly one of the most euphoric moments of the entire concert because as the timer (displayed on the big screens) reached zero, Jay-Z rose from up beneath the stage and sang “Run This Town.” Everyone had expected it to be Young Jeezy, so it was a pleasant surprise. We were thrilled to hear him sing “Empire State of Mind” and “My President is Black.” Young Jeezy took the stage a little later and lit up the stage with songs like “Soul Survivor” and “Put On.”
Looking back, the night was a blast. To someone like me from Salt Lake City, Utah, it is safe to say that I was shocked with some of the members of the audience, but it enhanced the experience nonetheless. Luckily, we remembered to bring along the camera so we snapped a few pictures throughout the performance. They actually turned out to be pretty good. Here are a few for you to browse through!
